How to Make Your Eyes Look Bigger with This Simple Trick

Your eyes are already beautiful, babes. But if you’re like me, sometimes you just wanna make those peepers pop. You know what I mean? Like, full Disney-eyed, bright and wide, Bambi-style cuteness. Good news is: there’s a super simple trick to make your eyes look way bigger without doing a full glam or turning yourself into an optical illusion. And no; it’s not scary or complicated. It’s actually hella easy.

Let’s get straight into it… because y’all don’t need a thousand-word TED talk before the goods.

The One Trick That Changes EVERYTHING

Okay, here’s the tea: the real MVP in making your eyes look bigger is… using a nude eyeliner on your waterline. Yup, that’s it. Not white. Not black. Nude. It literally works like magic.

If you want your eyes to look bigger instantly, swap your dark waterline liner for a nude one.

Putting a nude pencil on your lower waterline cancels out any redness and makes it look like the white part of your eye just keeps going. It gives you that awake, fresh, wide-eyed vibe. Think: your eyes, but after 10 hours of sleep and a green juice. No caffeine necessary.

Trust me, I’ve used this trick for YEARS on models, brides, my friends, myself after too many “just one more” episodes of whatever show I’m binging.

Here’s why it works: black or dark eyeliner in the waterline cuts your eye off and almost makes it look smaller than it is. It adds drama, which is cool for a smoky, grungy look. But if we’re going for big, soft, open eyes? Nude is your BFF.

Okay But… Which Nude Eyeliner Tho?

Let’s break this down because not all nude eyeliners hit the same. Some look too yellow, some too peachy, and some just… dry up your soul. Here are a few I personally swear by:

Product Name Shade Vibe
NYX Faux Whites Eyeliner Linen Super affordable, cute payoff
Tarte Fake Awake Universal Nude Creamy, stays put all day
NARS High-Pigment Liner Rue Bonaparte Luxe, smooth AF
ColourPop Crème Gel Liner Honeydude Budget-friendly and blendable
Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Nude Great drugstore option

Pro-tip: Go for something that’s waterproof or long-lasting because your waterline is, well… watery. And we don’t have time for disappearing liner moments halfway through the day.

Cool Trick. What Else Can I Do?

Okay so if you wanna take it further and really get that doll-eye look, here’s the secret menu of eye-widening hacks:

1. Curl Your Lashes (Yup, It’s That Simple)

I used to skip this and think it wasn’t that big of a deal… sis, I WAS WRONG. Lifting your lashes opens everything up and gives you that lifted, bright-eyed energy.

Use a good lash curler (Shu Uemura, if you know you know) and do it before mascara to avoid any weird crimping or lash-ripping. Please be gentle with those lashes; we love them here.

2. Use Mascara Strategically

Throw some mascara on your top lashes only if you’re really trying to make your eyes appear bigger. Focusing on the top gives your eyes that upward lift. When you put mascara on your bottom lashes, it can sometimes drag your eyes down, especially if it smudges. It’s giving… raccoon.

But if you love bottom mascara, just keep it light and precise. Use the tip of your wand and wiggle it from root to tip, mainly in the outer corners.

3. Highlight Your Inner Corners

This is one of my all-time faves. Just tap in a little shimmer or a bright highlight right on those inner corners of your eyes; it bounces the light and makes you look way more awake. Like your eyes are going: “Peek-a-boo! I’m fresh and glam!”

You can use:
– Powder highlighter
– Cream shadow
– Even a dab of light concealer set with champagne shadow

4. Lift Those Brows, Babe

Think about how your brows frame your eyes. Give them a little clean-up underneath, maybe fill them in just slightly above your natural line to create some lift.

Then go in with some concealer beneath that brow arch and blend it out clean. Add a bit of highlighter just under the arch if you’re feelin’ extra ✨

Boom; instant lift. Like Botox without the commitment.

5. Eyeliner Wings That Work For You

Don’t just slap on any wing. We’re not drawing Nike swooshes here, lol.

Instead, try this:
– Tightline* your upper lash line with a dark gel or pencil liner
– Skip lining the lower lash line completely (or use a soft brown if needed)
– Add a small flick that lifts upwards, kind of like your lashes are fluttering toward your brow tail

Small upward flicks of eyeliner can fake a natural eye lift. Hello lifted, brighter eyes.

*Tightlining just means coloring in that little space between your lashes and waterline. It makes lashes look fuller without taking up any eye “real estate.”

6. Play With Lighter Shadows

Lighter shades reflect light. That equals space and openness. Stick to baby pinks, creams, beiges and soft shimmers across the lids.

If you want some depth, go with a soft warm brown in the outer crease but don’t bring it too far in or too down. Keep everything lifted.

Quick Recap Because We Love a Cheat Sheet

Hack Why It Works
Nude liner in the waterline Makes your eyes appear brighter and bigger
Curl them lashes Opens up the eyes instantly
Mascara only on the top Lifts without dragging eyes downward
Inner corner highlight Bounces light, looks more awake
Clean brows with a brow lift Frames the eyes and creates the illusion of lift
Subtle outer wing eyeliner Pulls the eyes upward without shrinking them
Light shadows on the lid Expands the visible space on your eye

Don’t Sleep On The Basics

Okay y’all, real talk. Makeup is amazing, but don’t forget the basics:
– Sleep (yes, I’m looking at you Netflix binge crew)
– Water (yes, I know iced coffee counts emotionally but not physically)
– Eye cream if you’re feelin’ dry or puffy

Because big eyes also come from just feeling good in your body, mmkay?

And please: wash your makeup off at night. That liner can turn from cute to crusty REAL quick.

Wanna Take It Up A Notch?

If you’re going full glam or filming content and need va-va-voom eyes, don’t sleep on individual lashes or half lashes added to the outer corners. These open up your eyes without looking super obvious or chunky.

Lash styles I love for this:
– Ardell Accent Lashes (301s are perf)
– Kiss Falscara (esp their wisps)
– Velour’s Effortless Collection

They make the outside of your eye angle up which = wider eye illusion. PLUS they don’t weigh down your lid.

“The eye is the jewel of the body.” – Henry David Thoreau

Yes, Henry gets it. Make those jewels sparkle, glow, and look huge with just a few simple baby steps.

Final Pep Talk, Cutie

You don’t need to change anything about your face to be beautiful. Period. That being said, makeup is kinda like your favorite hoodie or playlist. It just… gives. It enhances the vibe.

So if bigger eyes are the mood today? Go for it. Whip out that nude eyeliner, bat those curled lashes, and give the world your biggest, sparkliest Bambi eyes. I’m screaming “YASSS GIRL” from my makeup chair.

Now go serve face 💅
