How to Apply False Lashes with Mascara for Extra Drama

Alright babes, let’s talk about that extra DRAMA we all love when it comes to lashes. If you’re anything like me (spoiler alert—you probably are), you know that false lashes can take your makeup look from cute to absolutely NEXT LEVEL in seconds. But, plot twist: have you ever thought about adding mascara with your falsies? Yes, queen, I’m talking about that extra “oomph” that makes your eyes look like you’re blinking away into the distance with lashes long enough to fly you off to Mars.

Today, I’m giving you the scoop on how to apply false lashes with mascara without turning it into a hot mess. Think voluminous, think long, think DRAMA. Keep calm, we got this! Let’s dive in!

Why Use Mascara With False Lashes?

Okay, so you’re probably like, “But gurl, why do I even need mascara with falsies?” Let me tell you why: it’s ALL about creating that seamless blend. You want your natural lashes to connect with your falsies, so no one can tell what’s real and what’s not. We’re going for that perfect mix where you’ve got the natural AND the fake working together. Mascara is like the cute middleman that makes your lashes look like one flawless, fluttery vortex of beauty.

Mascara helps your lashes and falsies blend into BFFs so well, no one will ever know the difference.

Plus, mascara can add that extra volume and zzzbam that sometimes your falsies alone won’t give. Trust me, your eyes will be all kinds of POPPIN’ by the end of this.

Prep Your Natural Lashes First!

Before we get to sticking on them falsies, we need to prep and prime the natural lashes you already have. Because girl, your lashes need some love too. Here’s how you get ‘em ready:

  • Curl your lashes: Grab that lash curler and give your natural lashes a gentle squeeze. We aren’t trying to squish them into outer space but give a solid squeeze for like, 10 seconds. This wakes your natural lashes UP and helps them get ready for their new besties (the falsies).
  • Mascara time #1: Yes, you read that right. We’re doing mascara twice today. First, apply a light coat of mascara to your natural lashes. I’m talking one even swipe on both eyes. This gives your falsies something to stick onto, almost like using double-sided tape to help everything stay in place.

Also—a little tip? Waterproof mascara works best here, especially if you’re worried about smudging or your falsies popping off mid-day. You’re welcome 😘.

Pick the Perfect False Lashes

Now the fun part: picking your falsies! 💅 What’s your mood today? Feeling natural and cute? Or are we going FULL Glamazon? I love that false lashes can really capture your vibe.

  • If you’re keeping it low-key (but not too low), go for wispy natural lashes. They add length and definition but still look pretty low-maintenance.
  • For full drama and a total lewk, grab yourself a pair of 3D mink lashes. These girls are MEGA and give serious volume! Not for the faint of heart.

Pro-tip: Make sure the lash band matches your skill level. If you’re a newbie, get a thinner lash band. It’s easier to handle!

It’s Application Time!

Okay now on to applying the magic! Get your falsies, tweezers, lash glue, and some patience—let’s get these lashes ON.

Step 1: Measure and Trim (Snip Snip!)

If your false lashes are longer than your actual eye (which usually happens for most of us), you need to trim them down a bit. Place your falsies on your lid without any glue to measure. If it’s too long, snip them at the outer corner. Trust me, it’ll save you from having them flapping around while you’re mid-blink. Awkward.

Step 2: Apply the Glue!

Time to dab on the glue. I like going with clear lash glue because it dries clear, and let’s face it, we don’t need unnecessary drama. Take a tiny amount of glue on the lash band, focus on the ends because that’s where the lifting happens, and WAIT, girl! Give the glue like 20-30 seconds to get tacky. Don’t rush this or your lashes will slide around like they’re taking a day trip from your inner corner to your outer.

Step 3: Stick Those Babies On!

Grab your tweezers and carefully place the lash strip as close to your lash line as possible. I usually start from the middle, then press down the ends. You can adjust them a little if you didn’t get it perfect. Use your tweezers to gently press everything into place.

Adam Sandler once said, “Set it and forget it” in reference to roasted chicken, 😆, but that totally applies here. Set those lashes into place and then just let it do its thing.

Falsies are all about living on the edge of being extra while pretending you’re still low-maintenance.

Time for Mascara Round Two!

Once your falsies are firmly in place and the glue is dry (wait like a minute or two, don’t worry, you got time), it’s time for BFF mascara to come back. This is where the magic happens.

  • Gently apply mascara: Grab your fave volumizing mascara and gently swipe some over both your falsies and natural lashes. This helps “marry” your real lashes with the falsies 🥰. Just be careful—you don’t need to use a lot, or you’ll weigh them down. Less is more here, babes.

Be laaight and fluff with your strokes because you don’t want to clump your lashes together. We’re going for fab, not tarantula legs.

Wave Goodbye to Gaps & Tweaks

If you see any tiny gaps between your natural lashes and the falsies (it happens, girl), this is where your eyeliner saves the day! Use a liquid liner to fill the gap between your real lashes and the lash band. Nobody will know you didn’t wake up with these goddess lashes. Add a little wing if you’re feeling fancy—because why not?

Mascara Or Nah?

This might spark a debate, but not everyone thinks you need mascara with falsies. So, quick PSA: It really comes down to personal taste. Adding mascara gives that extra volume and definition, helping your falsies become more extra, but if you’re already loving your falsies by themselves, do you, girl. You’re fabulous either way 🔥.

A Few Don’ts (Because I Got You)

Do NOT overdo the mascara: If you cake on like six layers of mascara, you run the risk of clumping up those beautiful falsies. Not the vibe we’re going for. One light layer is enough to show the drama without turning it into chaos.

Don’t go crazy right off the bat: If you’re new to putting on falsies and mascara together, practice a few times before you go full glam for a big outing. There’s no stress like the stress of trying to fix your lashes in the car 5 minutes before the event starts. Been there, done that 🤡.

And pleeease don’t sleep with your falsies on. This isn’t a nap-friendly situation. Take them off before bed so you don’t end up looking like Sad Panda™ the next morning.
