False Lashes

How to Make False Lashes at Home: DIY Tutorial

Alright besties, grab your glue and your crafty spirit because today, we are going on a WILD ride making DIY false lashes at home! Yup, you read that right: we are making lashes at home. False lashes can get a liiiiitttle pricey, but guess what? You don’t need to drop mad cash to get your own custom, fluttery fabulous faux lashes. So, if you’re ready to save some bucks and show off your DIY skills, then keep scrolling. I got you covered.

Now just a quick note—this tutorial will NOT take forever. It’s simpler than it sounds, plus it’s an excellent excuse to call your BFF over, play some Lizzo, and have some fun while you DIY your own lashes. Let’s get into it!

What You’ll Need: Lash Material Shopping List

Okay, you’ll need a few random things, but guess what? Most of this you probs already have lying around at home or in your makeup kit. Score! Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Human Hair or Synthetic Hair Extensions – Yes, babes, using hair extensions to craft lashes is totally a thing! If you’ve got some leftover hair extension clippings, this is your moment to shine.
  • Lash Band – This is like the skeleton of your falsies. You can either pull old lashes off their last legs or grab some cheap-o’s at the drugstore.
  • Eyelash Glue – Of course! You gotta have something to keep everything ON your eyes, right?
  • Tiny Scissors or Tweezers – For precision, babes. We’re trying to create flutter, not a mess.
  • Clear Nail Polish or Lash Sealer – We need to keep our DIY lashes held tf together!
  • Mascara Wand or Lash Comb – To style those babies at the end.

Yes, it’s that simple, people. Told ya. Now let’s do the thing.

Step 1: Prepping Your Hair Extensions

Okay, breathe. Stay calm. This is the fun part! If you’re using hair extensions (which I totally recommend instead of random fibers from around the house—it just works better, OK?), you’ll want to start by cutting tiny pieces off to make your lashes.

Get your scissors ready and carefully start snipping tiny, fluttery pieces of hair or fiber. Keep the pieces relatively short as they need to look NATURAL. No one wants eyelash extensions that make them look like they can’t see!

PRO TIP: If you don’t have extensions laying around, synthetic doll hair works, too. Yeah, it’s kinda weird, but whatever—it works!

Step 2: Fix the Lashes onto the Lash Band

This is where some patience will come in. Don’t freak out though— you got this! Get that lash band ready because you’re about to be your own lash technician.

Using whatever tool you’re comfy with (tweezers or the smallest dab of glue on your fingertips), start sticking the hair fibers onto your lash band little by little. You can stagger some longer bits toward the outer corner for that classic cat-eye shape, shorter bits toward the inner corner, and make things as wispy or full as you like.

“Long and flirty or soft and subtle—the choice is all yours, babe. Go big or keep it natural; it’s YOUR canvas.”

I’m personally a fan of that natural look, but if you want to channel your inner Kardashian and go BIG?! Well, what are homemade lashes for besides being D-R-A-M-A-T-I-C?

Let each small section dry as you go so nothing shifts or moves around while you work your way down the lash band.

Step 3: Seal the Deal

Next, take that clear nail polish or lash sealer and brush it across the base of your new falsie creation. This little trick will keep everything in place, like a top coat on fresh nails. Trust me, you want these new lashes to last beyond the first couple of blinks.

Let it all sit for about 5 minutes (or however long the directions on the sealer product say).

Now go grab a snack or whatever else you’re vibing with while you wait because Step 4 is where the magic really happens!

Step 4: Styling Your Custom Lashes

Okay, our lash babies are officially drying and now it’s time to style them! Take your lash comb or mascara wand and lightly run it through your custom lashes. This helps them stay separated and keeps everything fluffy. Don’t overbrush though—you don’t wanna mess up all your hard work putting the fibers in place.

“Get ’em fluffy, get ’em defined, and werk them like nobody’s business.”

Basically, think of it like giving your lashes a blowout, but for the eyes!

Afterward, you can also curl them if you’re feelin’ extra. If you like that wide-eyed, doe-eye energy, then a lash curler is your new BFF.

Step 5: Glue ‘Em On

Alright, pretty queens and kings, it’s glue time. Apply lash glue to the lash strip (you know the drill here) and wait for about 15-20 seconds until the glue gets a lil’ tacky.

Now, go ahead and place them onto your lash line using tweezers or your fingers—whichever works.

TIP: Apply your falsies AFTER doing your eyeshadow so you won’t mess up those custom lashes with glitter fallout. And if you screw up applying? No biggie! Just pull ’em off, add more glue, and start again. That’s why we practice right?!

Step 6: Slay ALL Day

Congratulations! You did it! You officially made your own DIY lashes and I’m so proud of you, boo! Now go look at yourself in the mirror and serve that flawless energy to everyone who’s lucky enough to look in your direction today! 👏

Go on and give yourself a selfie or two because…duh, you deserve it (make sure your lighting is GOOD or your hard work won’t get its shine!). Whether you throw on a soft, dewy look or a bold eyeliner, your lashes will be giving “did it myself and KILLED IT—thank you very much.”

“Lashes speak louder than words.”

Okay, maybe I just made that quote up, but isn’t it true, though???

Bonus Tips for Homemade Falsies

‘Cause I love ya, here’s a bit of extra wisdom to keep your DIY lash hustle 100% on point:

✨ Customize Wisely

You can ALWAYS trim them to better fit your eye shape after you’ve made them. Everyone’s eyes are different so don’t be afraid to give it a lil’ snip-snip to avoid too-long falsies.

✨ Mascara is Optional

Once the lashes are on, if you feel like being EXTRA flirty, you can use some mascara to blend your real lashes with the falsies. Just be gentle!

✨ Storage Hack

Keep ‘em safe by putting them back in an old lash box or small container. That way, you can reuse them for your next glam sesh. You DID put all that effort in, so why not?

And BOOM—that’s it! From basic hair extensions (or whatever materials you used!) to baddie-worthy custom lashes, now you can skip the overpriced stuff at Sephora and make your own whenever you want. You’re welcome.

Now that you’re basically a lash-making QUEEN, go out there and flutter those beauties like you mean it! Bonus points if you show off your DIY lashes on TikTok or Insta and tag me. 😉
