Where to Apply False Lashes: Tips for Perfect Placement

Hey, babes! Let’s talk about something that is seriously a game-changer in any makeup routine: false lashes. Whether you’re a glam queen, a lash newbie, or someone who’s just tired of regular mascara, we all know that lashes can make or break your look. But there’s this one thing that often gets people totally shook: “Where EXACTLY do I place these things?” 😅 Yeah, I’ve been there too!

Okay, but for real: nailing your lash placement is going to take your whole face from “Oh, that’s cute” to “Whoa, girl, your vibe is next-level.” So today, I’m giving you all the tips and tricks you need to apply those falsies like an absolute pro.

Let’s jump in so tomorrow, when you’re doing your makeup, you’re not struggling, you’re SLAYING. 🙌💁‍♀️

Step 1: Know Your Lash Style 🧚🏻‍♀️

Before anything else—before we even think about glue—let’s start with the lashes themselves. This isn’t just about grabbing any strip and smacking it onto your lids. Each type has its own vibe and placement strategy.

  1. Full Strip Lashes: These are the classic ones, and they give you MAXIMUM drama. Most peeps place them across the entire lash line (which is what we’ll talk about in a sec), but be sure they actually fit your eye size before gluing it down. If they’re too long, you’re gonna need to trim them a little.
  2. Half Lashes: Super trendy lately. They go on the outer corners of your eyes feeding into that sultry, cat-eye look. Placement here is key—you gotta start them about halfway down your lash line.
  3. Individual Lashes: These are for all my natural gals who want lash extensions but like, don’t want the whole situation. Place them strategically wherever you want extra volume. We’ll go more into these little babies later!

Not all lashes are created equal, and knowing where to slap them down can make your look more fire than you thought.

Step 2: Trim & Fit First! ✂️

Okay, I promise: trimming your lashes might sound scary at first, but honestly, it’s super easy (and you need to do it if they’re too big). Ever tried sticking a whole-strip lash on without trimming, and then it pokes at your inner corner all day? Yeah. We’ve all been there. 🥴

Here’s the hack: Before you add any glue at all, just pop the lashes on your eyes dry—like, no stickiness, just rest them gently across your natural lashes. Do they:

A) Stick out at the inner or outer corners? ✖️
B) Fit snug without looking too extra? ✔️

If it’s option A, take a pair of mini scissors and snip a little bit off the outer edges (always cut from the outer edges, not the inner ones). Cutting from the inside will mess with the flare of the lashes. Drama = gone. 👎

So make sure they fit your eye shape perfectly. It’s like tailoring… but for falsies.

Step 3: Where To Place The Glue 💧✨

Okay, we’ve trimmed; now it’s glue time! But here’s what most people get wrong: the glue. Less is more. Repeat after me: MESSY GLUE IS A NIGHTMARE. You don’t want it oozing everywhere.

Tip #1: Use a thin, even layer of glue on the very edge of the lash band. None of that “Goop it on and pray it sticks” vibe. A tiny brush applicator (like in Duo Lash glue) works wonders.

Tip #2: Patience, grasshopper. Give it 30 to 40 seconds to get tacky. TACKY. Just sitting there blowing on it for 5 seconds won’t do it. 😌 Trust me, it makes the biggest difference. It’s like Velcro! Sticky glue means it’ll, like, hug your lids better.

Step 4: The Art of Placement 🎨

Now we finally hit the magic part: putting these beauties on! For most looks, you want them as close as possible to your lash line without actually touching your eyelashes (that will just make your natural ones super gunky and spider-leggy).

  1. Full Strip Lashes:
    • Start by holding your falsies in the middle with tweezers or your fingers. I usually use my fingers for more control, but whatever works.
    • First, place them in the MIDDLE of your lash line, closest to your eyeball. This avoids awkward gaps on either side.
    • Once it’s there, then gently press the ends next to your inner corner and outer corner.

Starting in the middle gives you more control over where the lash sits, so both sides balance perfectly.

  • Pro-tip: Sometimes your false lash band might lift at the corners after some wear—a tiny dab of glue right on the corner will get it to stick back down without messing up your whole look. You’re welcome! 😘
  1. Half Lashes:
    • These are all about that cat-eye magic! Apply them to just the outer half of your upper lash line. Start just past the center of your lashes and work ’em outwards. This will instantly give you that lifted, foxy look.
  2. Individual Lashes:
    • Alright DIY lash queens: these take a bit of patience but are so rewarding. Start by placing a few on your outer corners for a natural flick, or go bold and stack them across the lash line.
    • Place each lash about 2mm away from the last one for a feathered, fluttery look.
Lash Type Best Placement Drama Level
Full-Strip Across the entire upper lash line Max Drama
Half Lashes Outer half of the lash line Cat-Eye Vibes
Individual Lashes Sporadic, or focused in outer corner or full lash line areas Custom Fantasy

Also, PSA: don’t place your falsies too far above your natural lash line… it’ll look… well, you’ll look like your lashes are floating in space. Not cute. Especially if you’re going for snatched-without-effort. 🙅‍♀️

Step 5: The Inner-Outer Balance 💁🏻‍♀️

Honestly, if you’re getting eyelash lifting or it’s behaving a lil’ funky on the inner corner, it’s probably because it’s too far in toward your tear duct. Your inner corner isn’t meant for something heavy like a lash band to sit on. Stick to letting the false lash start roughly a few millimeters OUT from your natural inner lashes.

And again: Don’t drag the lashes all the way to the very outer corner of your eye either. Give it a little space to avoid that illusion of your eye drooping downward (talk about a buzzkill).

Step 6: Blend. Blend. Blend! 🔥

Okay…the falsies are on, but let’s not leave the edges exposed like we just put tape on our eyes. Blending the falsies with your real lashes is clutch!

  1. After your glue dries, use your fave mascara to slightly wiggle the wand through both your real and false lashes. This adds extra volume and blends the two together seamlessly.
  2. If there’s any awkward gap between your lash line and the falsies, a quick flick (or small tap) of black eyeliner across your lash line will hide all that. Plus, it gives a lil’ extra liner drama vibe if you’re into that! 🎨

Step 7: Secure The Look 👁👁💖

Wanna take it up another notch? Use an eyelash curler (gently!) to give the false lashes lift and mesh with your natural ones. This is the finishing touch that makes all your effort look completely flawless. Your falsies will look poppin’ instead of “fakey,” you know what I mean?

Alright, queens 👑, so that’s pretty much the 101 on where and how to apply your false lashes for the ultimate bombshell look. Trust me, if you follow these tips, you’ll go from “help I’m glue-ing my eyelids shut” to absolute lash goddess in no time. 🌟

Remember, practice makes perfect, and your lashes don’t need to be Insta level every time—but we all know that’s the goal, right? 😂

Whether you’re hitting up brunch, school, or just vibing at home with Netflix, nothing’s gonna make you feel more put-together than those snatched, fluffy lashes! So go on, grab your fave pair—you’ve got this!

Catch you on the next glow-up sesh! 💖👋
