Self-Care Sundays: Skincare Rituals to Try

Self-care Sundays are probably my absolute fave. Picture this: it’s the end of the week, you’ve worked hard, slayed your makeup looks, kept your life (somewhat) together, and now it’s time to focus on YOU. Grab your comfiest robe, cue up your favorite playlist, and prepare to treat your skin like a freakin’ queen because this guide is all about getting that skincare glow-up.
Look, I know we all do our best during the week. We slap on makeup, crush it at work or school, and honestly, surviving the chaos alone deserves an award. But by Sunday (the universal chill day), it’s time to show our skin some major love. After all, glowing skin is the best flex for the week ahead, right?
Let me guide you through some of the BEST skincare rituals ever, so you can feel refreshed, recharged, and like that girl on Monday morning. 🌟
Step 1: The Cleanse of Your Life
Alright, y’all, first things first. After a week of makeup, environmental junk like pollutants (gross), and straight-up life stress, your skin deserves a deep cleanse. Not the weak rinse you do in the morning while half-awake, but a REAL cleanse.
Start with an oil-based cleanser if you’ve been rocking makeup every day. Something like DHC’s Deep Cleansing Oil is legit magic. It melts away makeup, even that stubborn waterproof eyeliner!
Follow that up with a foaming or water-based cleanser. You want the good stuff to really get in there and clean out your pores. CeraVe’s Hydrating Cleanser is my all-time drugstore fave. It’s gentle, but still kicks dirt to the curb.
Your double cleanse should leave your skin feeling fresh, renewed, and 1000% ready for all the self-care goodness that comes next.
Step 2: Mask It Up like a Skin Guru
Next, it’s time to mask. And I mean MASK like you’ve never masked before, babe. This is where things get fun. For Sundays, I love doing multi-masking–you can customize your masks depending on what each part of your skin is feeling (because it all doesn’t need the same thing, ya know?).
Feeling oily in your T-zone but your cheeks are dry AF? Use a clay mask in the oily areas and a hydrating mask everywhere else. Some bomb clay masks include the L’Oréal Pure-Clay Mask (hello, affordable) or GlamGlow Supermud Clearing Treatment if you’re feeling fancy.
Got dull skin? Slap on a brightening mask with vitamin C, and watch your skin go from drab to fab in like 20 minutes. Honestly, the Vitamin Nectar Mask from Fresh will definitely bless you with that glow like you’re in a TikTok filter IRL.
Step 3: Exfoliate, Babe
Now, after cleaning and masking, it might seem like we’re done. But oh no, there’s more! Time for exfoliation. No weekly skincare routine should skip this step because your skin needs to reset, girl! We’re talking about getting rid of that flaky dead skin so you can start your week smooth as a dolphin.
For physical exfoliants (the kind with tiny particles), use something gentle. I swear by the Tatcha Rice Enzyme Powder. It’s boujee but worth it! Your skin’s honestly gonna feel like straight-up silk.
If you’re more into chemical exfoliants (hello, acids), the Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant is a freakin’ legend for that smooth, luminous skin. Just don’t use physical and chemical exfoliants together or your face will seriously be like “WTF.”
Be gentle—your skin isn’t like a greasy frying pan that needs scrubbing (trust me).
Step 4: Tone That Texture
After all that cleansing, masking, and exfoliating, your skin might feel a little off-balance or dry. That’s where toners come in to save the day!
Grab a toner that hydrates and soothes the skin. If you’ve been coming across all those aesthetic Instagram posts with Thayers Witch Hazel Rose Petal Toner — there’s a reason it’s so popular. It smells like a rose garden and leaves your skin super soft.
Or better yet, go for a super-hydrating toner like the Klairs Supple Preparation Toner. This one’s extra hydrating and perfect for calming your skin after exfoliating.
Step 5: Serum – aka the Magic Potion
Now, let’s get to the sauce that makes your skin go from basic to #skingoals in no time: serums. This step is where you hit your skin with everything it’s craving.
Want something hydrating? Go for The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5. This magic potion will give you all the hydration your skin lacks.
Need to tackle hyperpigmentation or dark spots? Seriously, try Discoloration Defense Serum by SkinCeuticals or something with niacinamide like the one from The Ordinary.
Step 6: Moisturize Like You Mean It
At this point, your skin’s been through some stuff. Time to lock all that good skincare you just did with a solid moisturizer.
CeraVe Moisturizing Cream is a dependable, affordable fave, especially if your skin leans dry. But, if you love a gel moisturizer for that light and fresh feel, Neutrogena Hydro Boost with Hyaluronic Acid will make your skin feel bouncy (and who doesn’t want bouncy skin?).
If your skin’s confused about what mood it’s in (sometimes oily, sometimes dry, we’ve all been there), go for First Aid Beauty’s Ultra Repair Cream. It’ll fix any weird skin situation.
Don’t skimp on moisturizing. It’s like the cherry on top of your skincare sundae.
Step 7: Eye Cream Time
Okay, so you may or may not think you need an eye cream yet…but you do. I don’t make the rules! Whether it’s puffiness, dark circles, or just keeping your undereye area soft as butter, you need this.
For undereyes that feel like they’re carrying the weight of Monday stress already, try the Drunk Elephant C-Tango Multivitamin Eye Cream. It brightens your undereyes and leaves you looking like you got a full 10 hours of sleep (even when you did not).
Caffeine solution from The Ordinary is also a great budget-friendly option for reducing puffiness and dark circles when you’ve binge-watched too many Netflix shows on Saturday night.
Step 8: Slap on SPF (Even If It’s Nighttime)
So I know some of y’all are like: “Su, it’s nighttime, why would I need SPF on a Sunday evening?” But listen, if your skincare routine involves any exfoliants or acids, you want to start early and be ready to slap on that SPF first thing Monday morning. Sunscreen will keep all the glow you’re cultivating and stop your skin from getting UV damage.
Go with something that doesn’t feel greasy or clog your pores. I SWEAR by Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40. This bad boy is invisible and leaves zero white cast.
The Bonus Step: Lip Care (Don’t Skip This!)
You thought I was done? Not quite yet! Our lips need love too, especially if they’ve been through it with all the matte lipsticks that won’t budge throughout the week.
First, exfoliate with a Lush Sugar Scrub. It’s edible (yes, for real) and smells so good. Then, follow up with Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask for the softest lips ever when you wake up.
Or you can keep it simple with a really good chapstick like Aquaphor Lip Repair. Either way, your lips are gonna feel baby soft.
Create The Ultimate Vibe
Honestly, skincare is fun and effective, but let’s not act like the vibe during “Self-Care Sunday” doesn’t matter. Set the mood, hun! Light a candle (Bath & Body Works anyone?), play a chill playlist (Frank Ocean, anyone?), and just unwind.
This isn’t just about getting glowing skin, it’s about making YOURSELF feel good mentally and physically. So, if you want to double mask while you binge-watch Euphoria for the hundredth time or watch old makeup tutorials on YouTube, you rock that vibe.
After all, Sundays should be about recharging your body, mind, and skin—and there’s no better way than a self-care night in!
Start your week glowing and showing that self-love isn’t just an occasional thing–it’s a necessity.
Now go ahead, crush your skincare goals, and look like pure radiance on Monday. You’ll be serving all the looks, all week long!
