The Benefits of Wearing SPF Indoors

Hey babes, let’s talk about something that’s totally underrated in the beauty community… SPF. 😎 I already know what some of you are thinking: “Su, I’m literally sitting in my room… can’t I skip the sunscreen if I’m indoors?” Girl, think again! Whether you’re a skincare newbie or a pro with shelves full of serums (guiltyyyy), SPF isn’t just for taking selfies in the sun. I’m here to spill the tea on why sunscreen should be your everyday bae—even when you’re chillin’ indoors.

So, grab a snack and let’s break it down! 👀🥤

1. Wait… Can The Sun Actually Get Me Indoors?

Short answer: YES! Let me put it this way: You probably don’t notice it, but you’re still exposed to UV rays even if you’re not basking in the sun.

Here’s what’s wild—windows aren’t your friends in this situation. Most windows only block UVB rays, the ones that cause sunburns, but they let through UVA rays, which are even more savage 👀. UVA rays are the sneaky little devils that break down your collagen (a makeup artist’s worst enemy) and cause premature aging, wrinkles, and even dark spots. 😭

They basically sneak in like that one ex you unfriended five times on Instagram but STILL manages to find your stories. No thank you! Next!

UVA rays can go through windows and glass, accelerating skin aging—even if you’re inside!

So yes, suns out or not, you’re not safe unless you’ve got that sweet layer of sunscreen on your face, babe. And trust me, we want those sun-kissed selfies to last forever, without random spots popping up when we’re 30.

2. The Blue Light Situation

Okay, let’s be real: Most of us spend HOURS watching TikToks or scrolling through the gram (no judgment—I do too)! 📱💻 But here’s where it gets spicy. All that screen time? It’s exposing your skin to blue light, or what people like to call “HEV light.” If UV rays didn’t get you nervous, blue light should 👀.

Blue light comes from, you guessed it, electronic devices like your phone, laptop, and TV. And research shows that this HEV light can cause hyperpigmentation and sagging skin over time. Basically, too much screen time can make your skin age faster than binge-watching the entire Bridgerton series (for the third time) will.

I know right—how rude of it? 😩 But don’t freak out; there’s hope! Sunscreen, especially the ones with minerals like zinc oxide, can also act as a barrier between your skin and those sneaky blue light rays. Modern problems require modern solutions! 💅

3. Premature Aging Ain’t Cute

Now, we need to talk about every beauty lover’s biggest fear… wrinkles. There, I said it. 😊 Premature aging is real, and I’m convinced it starts when you decide to skip SPF thinking it’s only needed outside.

But here’s the deal: UV rays and blue light speed up skin aging like nobody’s business. They break down your skin’s natural goodies like collagen and elastin—two things our skin needs to keep looking snatched. 💁‍♀️

I don’t know about you, but future-me wants to be looking flawless well into my 80s! And SPF is your ride-or-die for achieving that ageless glow. Plus, your skin deserves as much love indoors as it gets outdoors. PSA: Prevention is wayyyy better (and cheaper) than fixing things later with expensive treatments!

4. Dealing with Indoor Lighting? Yep. You’re Still Vulnerable! 😬

Annnnd, don’t even get me started on Indoor Lighting.

Ever noticed how different your skin looks in certain lighting? Those fluorescent bulbs at work or that super bright studio setup don’t just mess with your makeup looks—they can mess with your skin too (rude!).

That artificial light can mimic the same effects as the sun—which is accelerated aging. It’s giving Dracula, but make it skincare. 😂 So before you turn on that ring light for your morning selfies, just know that using SPF helps block damage even from these indoor lighting bullies.

5. But Isn’t My BB Cream With SPF Enough?

Okay, I see you—waving around your BB cream, tinted moisturizer, or foundation with SPF in it, thinking you’re good to go. Babeeeee, I hate to break it to you, but while I love a good multitasking product, SPF in makeup alone isn’t enough. That coverage is usually only a fraction of what your skin truly needs.

Like, you’d have to smear on FIVE TIMES the amount of foundation you normally use to get the SPF protection it claims. And we all know that’s NOT happening unless we’re filming a YouTube challenge video. 😜 Save yourself the trouble—just use an actual sunscreen under your makeup and you’re all set!

Not enough SPF in your makeup? Double up with a real sunscreen! You won’t regret it!

I highly recommend pairing your fave BB cream or foundation with a separate SPF (preferably broad-spectrum, please). You’ll glow AND you’ll know you’re protected. That’s a win-win!

6. SPF Hack Attack: Make It Part Of Your Everyday Routine!

Now that I’ve convinced you that SPF inside is a MUST (right???), let’s chat about ways to make it a habit.

The good news is that adding sunscreen to your routine doesn’t have to be like adding another complicated step. Honestly, find an SPF you LOVE, and it’s game-changer energy. You want something that melts into your skin like butter, makes your makeup sit better, and—most importantly—doesn’t leave you looking like a ghost 👻 (because no one’s asking for Casper chic).

I personally love using a tinted SPF that evens out my skin tone while blocking out both UVA/UVB rays and blue light—yes, they exist! And for those days I’m feeling ~extra~ lazy, I’ll keep a face mist with SPF on hand so I can just spritz & go. You can even reapply it over makeup, so you have no excuse. 🙌

Trust me, the best SPF is the one you’ll actually use every day.

7. But What About Vitamin D?

Okay, let’s talk about the whole “I need my daily dose of Vitamin D though” thing. I get it—Vitamin D is important, but almost all of us get enough of it just from spending a little time outside or through food and supplements. You don’t need to sacrifice your skin for a bit of sunshine.

The truth is, you only need about 10 to 15 minutes of unprotected sun exposure per week. And even if you’re getting a bit less Vitamin D from wearing daily SPF, sun damage isn’t worth risking just to get a bit more of it. 😬

And hey, there are so many foods packed with Vitamin D too, like eggs or fortified cereals, so we’re not about to risk UV damage just to catch some rays.

8. But Su… What About Cloudy Days?

I know, I know—cloudy days seem like they’re all “no sun, no problem” but listen: UV rays can still pass through clouds. Sad, right? So even when the weather’s being a tease, those sneaky UVA rays are working hard to age your skin behind your back. 😫

Every day without SPF, inside or outside, is a day those rays are like “guess who’s gonna give you wrinkles!” Nope. Not today! 🌧️ 🌥️

This is a reminder (and a love note) to love your skin enough to protect it!

9. The School of “Better Safe Than Sorry”

Here’s the tea: Don’t wait until you notice a freckle that wasn’t there before, or a fine line creeping up out of nowhere. Always remember to make SPF a part of your skincare regimen, regardless of where you are—and especially if you wanna age like fine wine, not curdled milk. 😂🍷

I’m telling you, this small step today will keep you looking young and glowing for longer than your fave face mask or serum ever will. And besties, if there’s one thing we can all agree on, it’s that aging gracefully is the vibe, right?

So there you have it! To all my babes who thought they could get away with skipping SPF while scrolling TikTok indoors—think again! 🤯 Slap on that sunscreen like it’s your go-to lip gloss, and thank me later when you’re still serving amazing, wrinkle-free looks way past your 30s. 💖
