Easy Step-by-Step Everyday Makeup for Beginners

Let’s get right into it, besties! If you’re a beginner to makeup or just someone trying to create an easy everyday makeup look that doesn’t take your entire morning, I GOT YOU 💋. This routine is gonna be simple yet super cute, perfect for work, school, a casual day out, or even that FaceTime call with a crush (👀). PLUS, everything I’ll list has drugstore options because makeup shouldn’t make your wallet cry.

So, grab your brushes, your products, and maybe a comfie playlist ‘cause we’re about to make you look like you rolled out of bed lookin’ FLAWLESS. ✨

Step 1: Start with a Fresh Canvas: Prep That Skin 💧💕

Okay, first things first, we gotta prep the skin. If your skin is crusty (lol, no hate), the makeup WILL show it. Simple truth right there. The better your skin feels, the better your makeup’s gonna look. So, start by cleansing your face (even if you already did it earlier 🙃).

Next up is moisturizer, babe! Hydration is life. For your everyday look, you can use a light moisturizer or an SPF moisturizer combo (because…Sun safety, duh 🤓). Here’s what I love:

Some Tips for Moisturizer:
If you have oily skin: Go for a gel-based moisturizer.
If you have dry skin: A hydrating cream is your BFF.

And don’t you DARE skip sunscreen! Even if you’re staying inside. UV rays? They’re wild, sis.

My Go-to Products:

Skin Type Product Name Where To Buy
Oily Skin Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel SPF 30 Walgreens, Target
Dry Skin CeraVe AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion SPF Ulta, Amazon
Normal Skin Cetaphil Daily Hydrating Lotion SPF Target, Walmart

💡 Reminder: Let that moisturizer sit for, like, 2 minutes because we don’t like mixing wet moisturizer with our makeup. It makes things patchy. 😬

Step 2: Prime Time: The Secret Sauce for Staying Power 🔮🛸

Primers can be your superpower (they’re like the pizza crust of your makeup — essential, baby 🍕!). If you want your makeup to stay on through your day (or night), grab a primer that fits your skin type:

Primer Type What’s it For? My Fave
Mattifying Keeping oily skin in check 🌟 Rimmel Stay Matte Primer
Hydrating No more dry, flaky patches 😭 e.l.f. Hydrating Face Primer
Pore-filling Blurring out pores like an Insta filter 🌀 Maybelline Baby Skin

Lightly smooth that primer alllll over your face with your fingers, and voila. We’ve leveled up already 🙌.

Step 3: Foundation or Tint? Get That Glow Right 🎨

Let’s be real for a sec: nobody wants a cakey base during their day-to-day life, right? So, for an everyday look, you’ve got two easy options:

  • Tinted Moisturizer for a light & sheer finish
  • Light Foundation if you like a little extra coverage

For a natural everyday vibe, I lean more toward tinted moisturizers or light foundations that just even out my skin without making it look like I’m wearing a whole layer of makeup. Remember: less is MORE 🕊️.

Some easy-to-use picks:
Maybelline Fit Me Foundation (perfect shades, blends well, and doesn’t look heavy)
Glossier Skin Tint (Suuuuper light & hydrating)

How to Apply:

  1. Dot your face with the product in small amounts (forehead, cheeks, nose, chin).
  2. Use your fingers or a damp beauty sponge to blend it out everywhere, going toward your hairline and jawline. Don’t forget your neck! You don’t wanna look like two different people from face to neck 💀.
  3. If you’ve got some trouble spots (like under eyes or redness), lightly tap on those areas with extra product; don’t swipe! We’re trying to blend, not smudge.

Step 4: Concealer…‘Cause We All Have Dark Circles at 8 AM 🌞

If you’ve got some under-eye darkness (like, who doesn’t? 😩), the power of a good concealer can change your life. I’m obsessed with dotting just a little bit under my eyes, near where my nose and eye meet, and then blending it under AND out towards my temples.

When choosing concealer:
– Go for one that’s 1 shade lighter than your skin, which brightens things up but doesn’t make you look washed out 👀.

My faves include:
Maybelline Instant Age Rewind
NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer (Okay, a little pricier but OMG, it’s SO worth it.)

Use a mini sponge or clean fingers to pat that baby in place!

Pat, don’t rub. You want to blend your concealer, not erase it.

Step 5: Set It & Forget It (aka Powder Time!) 🌟

If you’re scared of looking shiny halfway through your day, then here’s the trick: powder.

Here’s how you do it:
– Less is more! Lightly dust translucent or pressed powder on your t-zone (forehead, nose, chin) where you’d naturally get oily.
– If you have dry skin, avoid powdering your whole face, hun. Just do those small areas that need it.

I swear by the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder — it’s cheap, AND it works.

Step 6: Brows: Make ‘Em Pop 🪄✨

Eyebrows TOTALLY frame your face, so even on a lazy day, I never skip this! If you’re into the whole ~natural brow~ look, get yourself a brow gel that’s tinted or clear.

If your brows are sparse, grab a brow pencil and lightly fill them in, following your brow’s natural shape. Brush ‘em out afterward to blend everything together and avoid any ‘blocky brow’ situations (nobody wants 2016 brows again 🙃).

Some ICONIC Brow products:
NYX Micro Brow Pencil
Benefit Gimme Brow Gel

Step 7: Eyeshadow? Let’s Keep It Simple 😎

I don’t feel like going ALL out for an everyday look, so keeping it subtle is key. I usually stick to neutral tones — browns, soft golds, and light pinks!

Here’s the vibeslight brown/nude color forMaybelline The Nudes Palette; it’s literally foolproof.

Step 8: Mascara: Lashes, but Make Them Wow 🦋

Even if you’re not using falsies (because let’s be real, fiddling with fake lashes before 9 AM is stressful), a killer mascara can still make your lashes look AH-MAZING.

My trick for long & lifted lashes:
Curler First, babes! Curl your lashes for that natural lift.
– Apply mascara starting at the base of your lashes and wiggling the wand upwards! One coat’s good for everyday, but if you’re feeling EXTRA, go ahead and layer it up.

You can’t go wrong with the Maybelline Lash Sensational or the L’Oréal Lash Paradise. Like, these mascaras are iconic for a reason.

Step 9: Blush Babe: Healthy Glow Activated 🍑💖

Blush = instant “I woke up like this.” Go for a soft pink, peach, or mauve if you want that natural flush. The key is to smile and swipe it on the apples of your cheeks and blend upwards toward your temples (kinda like you’re flicking it backwards).

For a fresh, dewy glowy look, try a cream blush like the Glossier Cloud Paint, or if you’re team powder, try the Milani Baked Blush.

Step 10: Lips: That Perfect Everyday Pout 💄

For lips, it’s all about keeping things simple and low-maintenance. Ain’t nobody got time to reapply lipstick every 30 minutes.

Go for:
– A tinted lip balm for a hydrated lip (like Burt’s Bees Tinted Balm).
– OR a your lips but better nude gloss (talking about you, Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb 😍).

If you’re extra like me, you can also line your lips with a nude lip pencil to give them some definition before adding your gloss or balm!

Optional: Setting Spray? Yes, Please 🌬️

This step is totally optional, but if you’re worried about your makeup sliding off during the day (especially if you’re in school or at work), a setting spray can LITERALLY save your look! A few spritzes on the face and you’re good for HOURS.

I like using the Morphe Continuous Setting Mist or the e.l.f. Matte Magic Mist.

That’s a Wrap! 🎉

And there we go, our super chill, easy everyday makeup look, ready to conquer your day! Remember, makeup’s all about having FUN. You don’t need to be a total pro to look bomb. Let that inner glow shine, and don’t stress if your winged liner isn’t perfect or if your brows are a little wonky sometimes. We’ve ALL been there.

Now go slay that day, babe. 💅
