Fourth of July Inspired Makeup

Okay, y’all! It’s time to get your red, white, and blue ON because I’ve got the perfect Fourth of July-inspired makeup look that will have you SLAYING the holiday. Let’s talk glitter, bold colors, and fireworks on your face (well, not literally—that sounds majorly painful). This look is fun and festive so whether you’re hitting a beach BBQ, fireworks show, or just hanging out with friends, you’ll definitely want to give it a try. By the time we’re done here, all eyes will for sure be on you, beauty queen. So, grab those brushes and let’s start this journey to star-spangled fab!
Step 1: Prepping Like a Pro
Before we start creating that artsy face masterpiece, we need to do the ultimate pre-prep. I canNOT even tell you how important this is unless you’re tryna look like a greasy, glitter-covered mess. Prepping your skin equals glass-skin vibes all day long – plus, your makeup will last longer when you’re sweating it out under the summer sun.
Now, y’all know I’m all about that hydration game. Take a sec to moisturize with your fave lightweight moisturizer (oil-free if possible) and follow up with a primer that suits your skin type. If you’ve got oily skin, a mattifying primer will be your bestie. If you’re on the dry side, grab one that gives intense hydration but doesn’t make you a disco ball level shiny. Don’t skip SPF, okay? We love a sun-kissed glow, but getting sunburned on July 5th—that ain’t cute, girl!
After that’s done, you’re ready for the fun part: makeup time!
Step 2: A Base You Can’t Erase
For my base girlies (and boys, we see you!)—a lightweight, breathable foundation will be your ride-or-die for an event like this. You want your skin to still look REAL and not like a filter. Go with a medium-coverage foundation or a good tinted moisturizer with SPF built-in. Apply it any way you like—a sponge, brush, fingers (yes, I said fingers #NoShame)—and don’t forget to blend down the neck. We do not stan foundation masks here.
Pro tip: Summer is hot, and makeup can melt like ice cream in the sunshine real quick, so if you have oily skin or need that extra hold, set the foundation with a tiny bit of translucent powder (don’t cake it on tho). That will keep you matte but not flat.
The key to a good Fourth of July makeup look is staying cool while looking hot!
Step 3: Let’s Talk Eyes – Red, White & Blue, Baby!
Alright, here’s where the creativity happens. Get ready to use your peepers as another way to wave that flag and “Oooh” and “Ahhh” just like a fireworks show. This part is SUPER customizable depending on how wild or subtle you wanna go. Here’s what I like that’s somewhere right in between max drama and a classic, wearable look:
A Bold Liner Moment:
We’ll start with a base eyeshadow: Grab a neutral taupe or light brown shade that works as your crease color. Just a little something for depth, ya know?
Now, it’s LINER TIME. There are two options here, depending on what you’re feeling and your makeup skills:
Beginner-friendly: Go with a navy or royal blue eyeliner pencil or liquid liner and wing it out! This is super easy and HELLO, patriotic without being over the top and scaring your grandma at the family BBQ. Add a tiny bit of white liner towards the inner corner of your eye to really make those eyes POP.
Extra AF: Ok, if you wanna go even bigger (yas queen!), try a double-colored wing. This is what I personally will be rocking, lol. First, take your blue liner and create a bold wing. Then, right above it, add a red wing—parallel to the blue—so you get that double-tap of color. Bold, graphic, STRAIGHT-UP fire. You’ll def be serving looks all night.
This isn’t a time for basic winged liner—it’s the Fourth of freaking JULY! Make it count!
Eyeshadow Sparkler Magic
If you’re all about that shimmer life (same here), use a white shimmer or holographic shadow on your lids. You want it to look like you got hit in the face with fairy dust…in the best way possible. It’ll look eye-catching when you’re up close and MAYBE, reflect light like literal fireworks for an eye-catching vibe.
Pop a little shimmer on your brow bone and inner corner too. But remember: don’t go too wild unless you’re fully committed to the unicorn life (respect if you are)!
Step 4: Lash Out
Can we all agree that lashes are a thing that take you from cute to DROP-DEAD GORGEOUS in like, 30 seconds? Pump up your lashes with a volumizing mascara but for the full drama? Go for fake lashes. This is one day you can go above and beyond with your lash game, TBH.
Looking for a super fun Fourth of July Lash Hack? Try adding sparkly rhinestones or tiny stars to the outer edge of your lash line! (Just use lash glue and let ‘em dry) This gives MAJOR sparkler vibes and is suuuuuper cute for the holiday.
Step 5: Bold Brows, Simple Bronzers
Even though this post is all about being extra, we gotta keep the bronzer and blush pretty chill. We’re saving that real estate for the eyes and lips today, so go for a soft bronzer and some light pink or peachy blush just to give you a sun-kissed vibe without overtaking the whole look.
Fill in your brows as you usually would but don’t go extra bold with them competing against your liner. Just stay to your normal fluffing/grooming routine. You know the drill!
Step 6: Lips that Pop (aka Y’all Ain’t Ready)
When it comes to lips, we’re going all in on either a red that’s hotter than the California sun or a playful glossy nude (depending on how hard you went with the eyes). Let’s break it down below based on your mood:
Red Lip Realness
For all my boss babes who want that fierce, patriotic vibe—SLAP on that bright red. It’s a classic for a reason. If you want it to last all day through all the burgers and hot dogs, opt for a liquid matte lipstick. Just make sure to exfoliate beforehand so we don’t end up with flaky lips. No ma’am.
Glossy Nude Game
If your eyes already stole the show with the bold liner and lashes, keep your lips chill. A peachy pink gloss or a nude lip is your go-to. This gives you that effortless summer glow without fighting the Fourth of July palette happening on your eyelids. I’m obsessed with a sheer gloss that adds shine but not too much pigment.
Either way you go: no wrong answer here, as long as you’re FEELING yourself.
Step 7: Yay, Spray!
Okay—don’t forget, you’ve spent this time on makeup and you don’t want it floating off your face halfway through the fireworks. Grab your fave setting spray and coat your look so it STAYS.
Pro-tip: If it’s crazy hot where you’re celebrating (cough California heatwaves), keep your setting spray AND your makeup sponge in the fridge before you use them to cool down your skin. THANK ME LATER.
Step 8: Time for Sparkle (Optional but HIGHLY Encouraged)
If subtle isn’t your thing (same, honestly), THIS IS WHERE THE GLITTER COMES IN. We’re talking body shimmer, hair glitters, face rhinestones, or whatever makes your heart sing. Personally, I love popping glitter gel on my collarbones for an extra glow-up, or taking pressed glitters and tapping some right onto the cheekbones.
BUT…and this is BIG—glitter can get so messy. Like majorly. The party doesn’t stop, but the glitter never leaves, if you know what I mean (sparkly pillows….forever). Use face-safe glitters and be prepared for a subtle cleanup situation when you get home.
Can’t get enough sparkle? Then do YOU and go hard with some galaxy-level shine, and catch every bit of sunlight like a disco ball. And let the haters hate.
FINAL LOOK: YOU’RE A WALKING FIREWORK!
Y’all! If you’ve gotten this far, congrats! You now have all the tools needed to create the most killer Fourth of July look. Rock those wings, strut that red lip, and OWN your Independence Day glam!
Have fun, take lots of selfies, and light up the sky (again… in a safe way, not with actual fireworks on your face)!
