Sunset Eyeshadow Tutorial with Warm Hues

Who else absolutely loves sunsets? There’s something about those orange, pink, and red hues melting into blue skies that just feels sooooo peaceful. Nature’s color palette ✨ is a total mood board, and I’m here to help you turn that vibe into your next show-stopping eyeshadow look. Today, we’re doing Sunset Eyes that’ll have you looking like an IRL golden hour glow with all the warm tones and a poppin’ ombré effect 🧡💛💖.

So grab your brushes, throw on some music, and let’s get artsy with your eyeshadow game, bestie. You’re about to nail that perfect sunset-on-your-eyes look!

Step 1: Prime That Canvas 🎨

Alright, we gotta start with the basics. You wouldn’t paint on a dirty canvas, right? Same thing with your eyelids!

PRIME TIME! Girl, do not skip this step. Your eyeshadow’s gonna look 10x better, trust me. If your eyeshadow creases or starts to fade halfway through the day, it’s illegal in the beauty rules book (jk, but seriously though). Use a good eyeshadow primer that helps those vibrant orange and pink shades stick all day long.

I’m personally obsessed with Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion. It locks everything in place like a vault, and bam—no oiliness!

Also, if you have any redness or veins on your lids, go for a primer that also color-corrects for smooth and even application.

Hot Tip: If you don’t have an eye primer, don’t freak. Apply a little bit of your concealer or foundation on your lids, then set it with a translucent powder. It won’t be exactly the same but it’ll do the job. Promise. 😊

Step 2: Lay Down That Transition Shade

Everything in life needs a solid foundation, amirite? Same goes for your eyeshadow. It’s all about the transition shade, bb. Grab a big fluffy brush and take a soft, warm tone, like a matte caramel or peachy nude, to start laying the groundwork for that gradient magic. This makes the whole look easier to blend later—so don’t skip!

Use windshield-wiper motions to sweep it across your crease and just a little above it. We’re bringing up the color slightly towards your brow bone, but leave enough room for the sparkle we’re gonna add later ✨.

Step 3: Let’s Add Some Fire With Bold Orange 🔥

Time to step up the heat! Take a warm, vibrant orange (like MAC’s “Rule” or ColourPop’s “Tangerine Dreams”) and press it on the outer corner of your lid, then blend it toward the center—but not all the way in. Make sure the transition into your crease is blended nicely, so everything is seamless.

You’ll wanna build this color up slowly; a little extra blending never hurt anyone 😉.

Remember: Blending is your BFF. Never take blending too seriously though—it’s not like we’re performing rocket science here!

You should already be seeing those sunset vibes starting to come alive!

Step 4: Bring in the Pink & Reddish Tones

Now for the PINK. Ugh, love a good pink sunset, don’t you? 😍 Using a brighter pink shade—something like “Love Letter” from ABH’s Modern Renaissance palette or Makeup Geek’s “Poppy”—pop it onto the center of your lid. Blend it over the orange you just placed, making sure the two colors fuse into each other flawlessly.

Then, to really mimic that dazzling sunset, grab a reddish-pink shade like “Venetian Red” and apply it towards the inner half of your lid, blending into the pink.

IMPORTANT: Use a smaller fluffy brush for this so you don’t mix them into one messy blob. The key is in layering these colors in a way that keeps each one distinct but blended.

Step 5: Yellow Pop for Golden Hour Vibes 🌅

Now, hold up, because we CANNOT have a sunset without some golden-yellow action! 🟡 This is where we really make it pop.

Take a bright yellow shimmer (like “Marigold” from ColourPop or “Edge” from Fenty Beauty) and pack it right into the inner corner of your eye. You get that instant OMG sparkle and it really makes everything look extra sun-kissed. You can also slightly blend this into the pink for a seamless transition.

If you’re feeling bolder, take that shimmer underneath your lower lash line to tie it all together.

Step 6: Blend it All Together, Sis 🔁

Okay, now let’s blend like there’s no tomorrow. Grab a clean fluffy brush and gently run it across the edges where your colors transition. This doesn’t mean over-blend and blur everything into one color. We need those juicy layers to stand out! But make the edges melt just right for that airbrushed look.

No harsh lines, ever. Your eyeshadow should look like it graduated in blending, flawlessly.

Step 7: Eyeliner Slayyy

I mean…isn’t liner just like the finishing touch that makes everything ~POP~? You can totally choose to skip liner if you want a softer vibe, but if you wanna go there—let’s DIVE in deep.

Go for a bold black liner or something a little spicier like a coppery brown that’ll keep the look more soft-glam. Wing it out if you like (pssst, always wing it) or just stick close to the lash line for definition.

OR, spice things up with a colored eyeliner. A navy blue or even electric purple will take this look to a whole other level!

Step 8: Lashes for Dayssss

Now we’re talkin’. You gotta have those sky-high lashes that give your eyes the drama they’re craving. Not everyone loves falsies, but for this look? YEP. We’re lashin’ out, babe!

Pick a fluttery, wispy pair that won’t hide all that hard work you just put in. Ardell Wispies will do the trick if you’re going the drugstore route, or try the Lilly Lashes in “Miami” if you wanna go full glam.

Tip: Curl your lashes before applying falsies and then blend your natural lashes into them with some mascara!

Step 9: The Lower Lash Line 💬

Don’t ignore the lower lash line! It’s the playground for even more color. Start off by smudging that same orange shade under the outer third of your lower lashes using a small pencil brush, then gradually bring in pink and let that blend into the inner corner golden highlight ✨.

Feel free to turn up the drama with a hint of dark brown or even a plum in the outer third right under the lash line to intensify the look.

Step 10: Glow Like the Sunset ☀️

To finish it all off, highlight your brow bone and inner corners with a soft, shimmery champagne or even a cooler white-gold shade. We wanna mimic the effect of the sun piercing through those clouds, making everything POP with radiance.

Make sure your cheek highlight matches all that glow, too. Basically, you should look like the sun herself kissed your face! Try highlighters like Becca’s Champagne Pop or Fenty’s “Trophy Wife” for maximum glow.

Bonus: Lipstick to Set the Mood

Sunset eyes + glam lips = OMG, you’re slaying the game! 👏🏽

For lips, you don’t wanna compete with these eyes but complement them instead. My fav pairings are:

  • A glossy nude (always, alwaysyyy, always a good choice)
  • A soft peachy coral if you wanna keep it summery
  • Or, go bold with a reddish-orange. This is stunning if you’re feeling extra fiery hot (we love a little drama).
