New Year’s Eve Glam: Glittery Eyes and Bold Lips

OK! Let’s get you looking so extra for New Year’s Eve! It’s THAT night where no look is too bold, too sparkly, or too much. Basically, it’s the one night where the dress code is “shining brighter than the Times Square ball drop,” and the vibe is pure glitter and glam. So today, we’re going to create a look that screams, “I’m the main event.” Think sparkly af glittery eyes paired with a lip color so bold it’s practically its own firework show. 💥✨
Before we dive in, quick heads-up: you’ll definitely want to grab these essentials—glitter, primer (we’re not trying to turn into a disco ball mess by midnight), a bold lipstick, and all the sass you can muster. And don’t forget: makeup wipes are your besties for when you need to clean up before you mess up. 😏 Cool? Let’s go!
Step 1: Prime to Party 💆🏻♀️
Okay beauty babe, first things first: prepping your skin is major key. NOTHING stays put without a good base. And the goal is to have everything looking sharp from pre-game to that 3 a.m. “Hey, who’s ordering pizza?” convo. To make sure that happens, use a primer that works with your skin. If you’re an oily queen, try the e.l.f. Poreless Putty Primer —it’s like putting Instagram skin IRL.
For anyone with combo or dry skin, go with something hydrating like Milk Makeup’s Hydro Grip Primer. Think of it as the glue for your entire look, except it’s not gross—it’s magic. Apply a thin layer all over your face, especially in your T-zone ‘cause that’s where things tend to get shiny and slide around.
Primer is everything. It’s literally the foundation of your foundation!
Step 2: The Glowiest Base Yet
Girl, let’s get this skin on point first. You’re gonna want that soft focus, filter-effect glow for those Insta pics, amirite? Go for a medium-to-full coverage foundation that gives you that dewy finish but still holds up (because, flash photos). My go-to ride-or-die: NARS Sheer Glow Foundation. It’s glowy without being greasy, so you can keep the highlight in the right places.
Use a damp beauty sponge (because brushes can be a little… streaky, ya know?) and apply your foundation in bouncing motions. Like, don’t rub it in, okay? BOUNCE. We love a light hand here. The goal is skin that looks flawless but not like ‘cake, cake, cake’ (shout out to Rihanna though 🥳).
Follow that up with concealer to brighten up your under-eye (where all those late-night Taco Bell runs come to haunt you). Go two shades lighter than your foundation with Tarte’s Shape Tape for coverage… that literally covers everything.
Step 3: Contour and Glow Baby 🌟
Alright, babes, once your base is laid, it’s time to snatch those cheekbones and glow like a human chandelier. For contour, grab a cream or powder (whatever you feel most confident with). I LOVE using Fenty Beauty’s Match Stix Matte Skinstick in “Mocha” for carving out the cheekbones of my ~dreams~.
Dab it underneath your cheekbones (never on them—that’s a makeup sin) and around your jawline then blend that out till your face looks sculpted like Gigi Hadid. Next up, go HAM with highlighter. And I mean HAM. Becca’s Champagne Pop is always a solid move. Swipe it on your cheekbones, bridge of your nose, and above your cupid’s bow. Basically, wherever light hits, that’s where you are gonna glow. ✨
Contour gives you cheekbones. Highlighter gives you life.
Step 4: Glitter Eyes That Will Literally Shine All Night ✨
OKAY, now for the fun part: the eyes. We’re going for maximum glitter. Think of the galaxy, starry skies, and ALL that good stuff, because again, it’s NYE.
Start with an eyeshadow primer (I know—I’m big on priming, but it seriously MAKES the look). I swear by Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion. Apply a tiny bit and blend it over your lids to make sure your eye makeup stays locked in place and doesn’t crease.
Time to pop off with your shadow: build up a neutral or bronze-colored matte shadow in your crease for depth. Morphe’s 35O Palette is PERFECT for this because it has all the warm, shimmery golds and deep browns you could ever ask for. Go in with a fluffy brush, and blend a mid-tone brown right into the crease. Use a dark brown if you want to amp it up even more!
When it comes to actual glitter, I stan Stila’s Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadow in “Diamond Dust.” It’s sparkly without the whole “ugh, I have glitter in my eyeball” problem that loose glitter can cause. Apply it straight to your lids to get that wow-level sparkle. And sis, don’t be shy. Tap it on with your finger for an extra bold look.
If your eyes don’t look like a disco ball, you’re just not doing NYE right!
Step 5: Wing It Out 🖤
Here’s where things get extra! Time for that sharp. wing. liner. (Yes, it’s happening.) In my world, NYE liner means graphic and flirty, so let’s get those wings as sharp as your comebacks.
Take your fave black liquid liner—I’m OBSESSED with KVD Beauty’s Tattoo Liner—and start with the wing at the outer corner, flicking it up like you’re a cat eye icon. Then, connect it back to your lash line and fill that baby in. Be patient with this part because the struggle of making both wings match is TOO real. 😅
If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even hit your lower lash line with some liner OR use a sparkly gold or bronze shade under there for an extra touch!
Step 6: LASHES LASHES LASHES 👁️
Girl, NOTHING says glam like some long, fluffy falsies. They literally complete the entire New Year’s Eve vibe. I’m talking about lashes you can practically see from space. For this look, I’d def recommend Lilly Lashes in Miami. These babies are dramatic but still wearable—exactly what we want when trying to look and feel THAT extra.
Apply a thin layer of lash glue (I love DUO Lash Adhesive) along the band and wait like… seven-ish seconds for it to get tacky. Then, pop them on using tweezers for precision. Are they gonna be weird to wear if you’re not already a falsie kind of queen? Maybe. Are they gonna make all your pics look like a makeup campaign? For sure! 😏
Step 7: Bold Lips = Bold Energy 💋
Okay, now for the main event (if your eyes weren’t already stealing the show): BOLD. LIPS.
Red lips are a classic NYE move, and they work EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. But don’t be afraid to switch it up depending on your vibe! My go-to is MAC’s Ruby Woo: It’s matte but doesn’t turn your lips into that cracked desert situation, AND it stays on through all the eating, laughing, and kissing (just sayin’). If red isn’t your jam, a deep burgundy like Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint in “Underdawg” is also incredibly iconic.
For the best result, line your lips first with a matching color that keeps your lips in check. Outline them just outside your natural lip shape for that super full, Kylie Jenner-esque effect. Once the lip color is on, blot on a tissue then apply more. Trust—it’ll hold up way better this way.
Bigger lips mean bigger confidence, and we’re HERE for it.
Step 8: Seal the Deal!
We’re not done yet! All that effort and glam needs to be locked down with a good setting spray. Honestly, I’m obsessed with Urban Decay’s All Nighter Setting Spray. Just mist it all over your face and chill for a sec while everything sets into place. Now, your makeup will last through alllll the dancing, champagne, and whatever else happens at midnight (wink wink).
Wrap Up: Time to Turn Heads 😍✨
That’s it! You’re officially ready to slay the NYE game with your glitter eyes and bold lips. This look is basically a firework in makeup form, so catch the stares, make an entrance, and OWN it all night long. And remember: there’s literally no such thing as “too much” on New Year’s Eve.
